After visiting the evening mass in Hospital de Orbigo - the priest finished the whole mass in record time at 19.15 - I got myself prepare for the next mornng. I already bought an ambrella from a Chinese store across the street carrying all items imaginable. Lights off at 21.00 and I got a good night sleep.
Today its a short trip to Astrorga - as you can see I am learning to go slower - especially knowing that the 5 most challenging days of the whole pilgrimage are right behind Astorga. As Daylight did not break yet I am carrying a blinking flashlight since the path is parallel to the national street for some time. It's scary how fast some of the trucks fly by - so it's good that the authorities think of us hikers
and warn the drivers to hit us with no more than 80 km/h:))
The wheather forecast had it in: rain showers from 8.00 - even though it looks funny I grab my ambrella bought yesterday and walk along with it. It rains so heavy though that the ambrella does not really help either. Finally though one can see the skyline of Astorga dominated by the two red towers of the cathedral and the Gaudi Palace.
My hotel - via de la plata - offers a spa and massages: I am ready for both. When the skinny girl enters the massage room I don't expect much and am very surprised: one of the best leg massages EVER.
Time for culture: the museum, cathedral and Gaudi Palace are all next to each other and
I pay a visit to all 3. It's not Antonio Gaudi's masterpiece but still a very individual and creativ building. Inside of the palace the Astorgen host the real "Cruz de Ferro" ( iron cross) which I am scheduled to see in 2 days on the trip. As the real cross was out for restoration the director of the museum was so kind to still present it to me:
After culture it's lunch time at La Peseta just across from my hotel. It turns out to be the best food so far on my trip - I love the Spanish cuisine and here they celebrate it at its best!
